Quarto Essentials: Dynamic Documents made Simple. A practical introduction to modern scholarly publishing

Goals:
Participants will be able to decide whether Quarto can help support their research, writing and publishing process.
 

Content Outline:
This hands-on workshop introduces Quarto for creating reproducible, publication-quality documents. Participants will learn to author dynamic content combining code and narrative text across multiple output formats.
• Introduction to Quarto: Overview, core concepts and various document formats
• Document basics: YAML headers, markdown syntax, project and document structure
• Code integration: Executing Python code chunks and managing output
• Output formats: Rendering to HTML, PDF and office documents
• Advanced features: Cross-references, citations, and figure management
• Publishing workflows: Creating websites, presentations, and collaborative projects
 

Methods:
Online webinar session of 3.5 hours. Participants are requested to have their own computer with administrative rights ready with Quarto version >=1.8.25 and Visual Studio Code installed. An installation of Zotero and BetterBibTex plugin is helpful.

Trainer:
Axel Dürkop (Hamburg Open Online University at TU Hamburg) has been teaching computer science topics from a technical and philosophical perspective for more than fifteen years. In his work as scientific advisor to the HOOU at TU Hamburg, his focus is on designing open and accessible learning experiences in hybrid spaces. More information at axel-duerkop.de.

Registration: This workshop is offered by TU Hamburg. Due to a limited number of participants a binding registration is necessary.
