The workshops of the Joint Forum offer the ideal platform for young researches to establish initial contacts and develope ideas.

The panel discussion of the first day dealt with the topic "Partnerships with Universities: Collaborative Research and Positive Impacts for Society". Specifically, the discussion focused on the opportunities and possibilities created by partnerships between companies and universities, which also have a positive impact on society. In addition, new forms of collaboration were presented. Leading representatives from science and industry from Lower Saxony and Scotland exchanged their opinions during the top-class panel.

Especially at a time when nations are moving further away from each other due to national egoisms or "Brexit", the Joint Forum set a clear sign of the importance of international cooperation and the open exchange of ideas between universities, societies and countries.

The second day of the Joint Forum, was dedicated to scientists, students and other members of higher education institutions in Lower Saxony and Scotland. In eleven exciting workshops, participants discussed diverse topics such as sustainability and the efficient use of resources, biology, physics or even education and thus, showed how cooperation between higher education institutions can work in the context of concrete projects.

Some of these workshops form the starting point for the development of partnerships, which may be further deepened within the Lower Saxony – Scotland Tandem Fellowship Programme. The programme, led by ECAS, provides post-doctoral researchers with an opportunity to receive grants for research stays when visiting their research partner at a Lower Saxonian or Scottish university. The aim of the programme is for young researchers to build networks and work together on research projects. The workshops of the Joint Forum offer the ideal platform for establishing initial contacts and developing ideas.
