Student assistant position in Sustainability Sciences and Psychology

The position is only open to students enrolled at Leuphana University.
The position starts in fall 2025 at the Faculty of Sustainability, Institute for Sustainability Education and Psychology, 40 hrs / month, and 6 months in total.
We study sustainability challenges from the perspective of judgment and decision sciences. Research and teaching focus on communication of climate and environmental risks and associated uncertainties, as well as when and how individual behavior change can contribute to sustainability transitions. The position focuses on individual’s attribution of extreme event impacts and communication of insights from Extreme Event Attribution (EEA) science. Research and teaching are interdisciplinary and applied. Methodologically, we predominantly use experiments and surveys, as well as qualitative research methods.
Activities
Research
•Literature research in databases such as Scopus and PsychInfo; and summaries of search results according to established guidelines
•Preparation and analysis of quantitative datasets (in R)
•Pretesting, programming and conducting experiments and/ or interviews
•Support in writing research articles about the above research topics
•Support in preparing a grant application on individual attribution and EEA communication
Teaching
•Support of seminars and lectures in English language
•Supporting students with organizational questions around lectures and course work
•Supervision of digital learning platforms such as Moodle and Zoom
Profile
•High flexibility, good time management
•Fluent English, at least basic knowledge of German
•Very good knowledge of psychological research methods (including multivariate analysis); ideally a bachelor or minor in psychology
•Profound expertise in using R for descriptive analyses and high willingness to learn R for multivariate statistical analyses
•High willingness to learn / practice programming of experimental surveys and experiments in software such as Qualtrics or Lime Survey
•High willingness to support teaching activities
You will be working with Jonathan Ulrich and Astrid Kause. Besides 1:1 or 1:2 meetings, you will regularly be participating in our team meetings where we alternate discussions about each other’s work with a journal club.
