Movie Night: Spirited Away

On Tuesday, the 6th of May, the Unikino in cooperation with the Self-Access Center is showing the Japanese animated film Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し), written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The screening will start at 20:00 in Auditorium and will be shown in the original Japanese with German subtitles.
The film follows ten-year-old Chihiro, who finds herself, along with her parents, in a mysterious world inhabited by ghosts. As her parents turn into pigs, Chihiro's courage and determination are put to the test as she tries to rescue them and return to the real world. Spirited Away is a visual masterpiece depicting a story dealing with themes like coming of age, identity, and the power of friendship. The film has won many awards, including an Oscar for best animated film.
A highlight of the screening will be an introduction to the film providing cultural context, given by a Japanese speaking tutor from the Self-Access Center.
