Digital Reading and Reading with AI

Digital technologies in general and AI in particular have changed the ways in which we can read scientific texts today. On our devices, we, for example, access and engage with books and articles, and several AI tools allow us, potentially, to process information at an unprecedented scale. Reading in this manner has, however, several drawbacks, as we tend to read HTML or PDFs in a more superficial manner than print. Fortunately, the literature on reading in digital environments provides guidance on how to mitigate potential risks, prioritize cognitive engagement and learning, and improve the quality of reading outcomes. In this workshop, you will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of digital reading (and reading with AI tools) as well as hands-on reading strategies and techniques for this context.

If you have not attended the general introduction to academic reading prior to this event, I recommend that you download and review the resources provided for this workshop on myStudy. I will refer back to some of the points to discuss, for example, the difference between analog and digital reading.
