GitLab - An Introduction
This is an event organised by the TUHH Graduate Academy, taking place online on two dates:
- Tue, April 21, 2026, 9.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m.
- Tue, April 28, 2026, 9.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m.
Goals: Participants are familiar with the approach of decentralized software, media and text development in agile workflows. In doing so, they will implement the topics covered in an action-oriented manner.
Content Outline: With platforms such as GitHub or GitLab, decentralized, interdisciplinary teams can work together on code and text projects. This form of collaboration is increasingly changing work processes in research and teaching and opens up new possibilities for project management, data collection and analysis, the joint writing and publication of scientific texts and the creation of teaching materials.
The workshop introduces corresponding workflows and techniques and provides practical insights into the following topics:
- Introduction to the basics and culture of Git, GitHub and GitLab
- Possibilities of project management with GitLab
- Creating and managing groups and projects
- Project-specific wikis for the accompanying documentation of projects
- Concepts and best practices for working with Office documents
- First steps for collaborative work on text and code projects (scientific articles, websites, teaching material, etc.)
- Working in the browser and on your own computer
Methods: Online webinar sessions of 3.5 hours each on two mornings a week apart to allow sufficient time for follow-up and preparation before the second session.
Trainer: Axel Dürkop, Hamburg Open Online University at the TU Hamburg

In his work as scientific advisor to the HOOU at the TU Hamburg, his focus is on researching and shaping openness in research, teaching and society. More information at https://axel-duerkop.de.
Registration: Due to a limited number of participants a binding registration is necessary. Please ask your supervisor for permission to participate and then address your registration to https://intranet.tuhh.de/anmeldung/gitlab_introduction_2026.
