"The openness of the students and lecturers, along with the collaborative atmosphere, creates an environment where it is easy to exchange ideas and learn from each other."

Why did you choose to study Management & Entrepreneurship?

During my previous studies and work experiences, I developed a strong interest in understanding how ideas can be turned into real solutions and how organizations create value in practice. I had already gained exposure to both technical and business aspects, which made me want to deepen my understanding of how these areas come together in real-world decision-making. At the same time, I wanted to move beyond theoretical knowledge and better understand how ideas can be implemented in a structured and effective way. For me, it was important to learn how to approach challenges, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully within organizations.

I have also always been motivated to build something of my own in the long term. Through this program, I wanted to develop the mindset and skills not only for that path, but also to take initiative and create value within existing companies. The program stood out to me because of its clear focus on entrepreneurship and its overall structure.

What were your expectations before you started your Master’s degree at Leuphana, and what do you like most about Management & Entrepreneurship?

Before starting, I expected to build on the foundation from my Bachelor’s degree and take my knowledge and skills to the next level. I was particularly interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how ideas can be developed and implemented in practice, while also expanding my perspective and network. What stood out most to me were the people. The openness of the students and lecturers, along with the collaborative atmosphere, created an environment where it was easy to exchange ideas and learn from each other. Another important aspect for me was the strong focus on sustainability. Over time, it influenced the way I think about business and made me more aware of the responsibility to develop solutions that create a positive impact.

What did you study before starting your Master’s degree, and how were you able to build on your previous studies?

I studied Industrial Engineering with a focus on Supply Chain Management, which gave me a strong foundation in both technical and business topics. Alongside my studies, I gained practical experience in Germany at companies such as TeamViewer and MAHLE Behr, working across different roles from sales to R&D. I also gained international exposure during my Bachelor’s through experiences in the USA and Turkey, and later during my Master’s through a short Erasmus+ exchange in Spain. Building on this background, the Master’s program helped me develop a more structured understanding of management and entrepreneurship, especially in connecting my technical knowledge with business decision-making.

How is the Master‘s program positioned in terms of internationality?

The program offers a good balance between international and local perspectives. My cohort included both German and international students, which created a diverse learning environment while also helping me better understand the German mindset and business culture. There are also opportunities to engage beyond the classroom. For example, during a „Herbstschule“ in Carolinensiel I worked with students from different universities. Overall, the program allows you to combine international exposure with a strong understanding of the local context.

What do you particularly like about the campus and the city of Lüneburg?

What I particularly like about Lüneburg is how livable and welcoming the city feels. It is easy to get around, especially by bicycle, and everything is close by, which makes daily life very convenient. The campus also offers great facilities, especially in terms of sports and fitness, including a gym and even a sauna, which helps maintain a good balance alongside studying. Small things like the bike repair shop Konrad on campus also make everyday student life easier. Overall, both the campus and the city create an environment where you quickly feel comfortable and at home.

What is the relationship like with other students and lecturers?

The relationship is very open and supportive. Lecturers are approachable and open to feedback, which creates a collaborative learning environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas. The connection with other students is also very strong. You not only study together, but also learn a lot from each other’s diverse backgrounds and experiences. Over time, these interactions often develop into close friendships and a strong sense of community.

Have you decided on a topic for your Master's thesis yet, and do you have any plans for after graduation?

I am currently in the process of defining my Master’s thesis topic. After graduation, I plan to gain further professional experience in Germany, deepen my understanding of how organizations operate in practice, and continue developing my own ideas alongside that.

Are there any tips you can give new Management & Entrepreneurship Master’s students, that you would have loved to know at the start of your studies?

One thing that worked very well for me was making the most of the first weeks especially the opening week. I actively got involved, met new people, and built strong connections early on. These relationships supported me throughout my studies, both academically and personally, and became one of the most valuable parts of my overall experience.

Who would you recommend the Management & Entrepreneurship Master's program to, and what difference can MES graduates make?

I would recommend the program to students who are curious, open-minded, and interested in understanding both the theoretical and practical aspects of entrepreneurship and management. It is especially suited for those who are willing to engage with different perspectives, critical thinking, and a structured approach to problem-solving. At the same time, you can make it quite practical if you actively use the opportunities available. For example, through programs like Future Founder in Hamburg, I was able to work on a real business idea and connect with the local startup ecosystem.

I would say the program is not ideal for someone who is only looking for immediate hands-on execution without engaging with theory. However, for those who are willing to combine both, it provides a strong foundation. Graduates develop a strong sense of responsibility and a broader understanding of how entrepreneurship can create value not only through new ventures, but also within existing organizations. They learn to approach challenges from multiple perspectives, work with diverse people, and contribute in a thoughtful and impactful way.

Did you spend a semester abroad? If so, where did you go and what did you particularly enjoy about it? To what extent would you recommend studying abroad to new Master's students?

During my Master’s degree, I did not complete a full semester abroad, but I participated in an Erasmus+ exchange program in Burgos, Spain. The program focused on sustainability accounting and the green transition of the EU economy, where I worked with students from different universities to improve a learning platform on this topic. I particularly enjoyed working with people from different countries, gaining new perspectives, and developing a better understanding of how sustainability is approached across Europe.

I would highly recommend studying abroad, especially for students who have not had this experience before. It helps you become more open, adaptable, and confident, and gives you a completely different perspective. At the same time, even shorter exchange programs like the one I did can be a great alternative if you want international exposure while focusing on other priorities during your studies.

"I would recommend MES to anyone who is not 100% sure which business Master’s degree to choose. The mandatory courses provide a great foundation for general managerial work as well as entrepreneurial thinking, which is becoming increasingly important."

Why did you choose to study Management & Entrepreneurship?

I chose to study Management & Entrepreneurship because I was looking for a program that focused on strategic business thinking and would help me both in a corporate setting and in founding and managing my own potential business.

What were your expectations before you started your master’s degree at Leuphana, and what do you like most about Management & Entrepreneurship?

I was hoping to learn more about academic research, as my Bachelor’s degree was highly focused on practical applications, and I also wanted to be able to build my own schedule with courses from many different faculties. What I like most about Management & Entrepreneurship and studying at Leuphana in general is the complementary studies and the opportunity to explore new fields.

What did you study before starting your master’s degree, and how were you able to build on your previous studies?

During my Bachelor’s degree, I completed a dual study program in collaboration with a German shipping company and HSBA in International Business Administration & Trade. After graduating and before starting my Master’s degree, I worked full-time for two years. This allowed me to apply a lot of my practical business knowledge and connect newly learned theories to my job, which helped deepen my understanding. Honestly, it also made learning more fun because I could clearly see how to apply what I learned.

How is the Masters programme positioned in terms of internationality?

In the Master’s programs at Leuphana, you meet many international students, whether they study at Leuphana for only one semester or come to Lüneburg for the entire program. As a result, the environment is very international, and it is really exciting to exchange ideas with such a diverse group of students. You also get amazing opportunities to go abroad yourself.

What do you particularly like about the campus and the city of Lüneburg?

Lüneburg is a wonderful city to live in. It is calm and peaceful, but you can still find everything you need. Additionally, the city center is very well connected to the campus, either by bus or a short bike ride. The campus itself is very green and spacious, and the best thing is that there are countless different study spaces where everybody can find a place that fits their needs and preferences, whether they prefer complete quiet, opportunities to talk, or even studying outside.

What is the relationship like with other students and lecturers?

I have made amazing friends at Leuphana, and it is also very easy to connect with everyone because there is such an inclusive atmosphere, both within the program and across campus in general. The lecturers are also very approachable and respond quickly to any questions. Overall, my relationship with both other students and the lecturers is great, which is very supportive and important during a Master’s degree.

Have you decided on a topic for your Master's thesis yet, and do you have any plans for after graduation?

Yes, I have. I have an amazing opportunity to conduct a case study at the company I work for regarding the evaluation of leadership development training programs. After completing my Master’s degree, I will stay with the same company and look forward to applying my new knowledge full-time.

Are there any tips you can give new Management & Entrepreneurship Master’s students, that you would have loved to know at the start of your studies?

Exchange ideas with other students about the best ways to study, but at the same time, do not be afraid to study differently from everyone else if that approach works for you.

Who would you recommend the Management & Entrepreneurship Master's program to, and what difference can MES graduates make?

Honestly, I would recommend MES to anyone who is not 100% sure which business Master’s degree to choose. The mandatory courses provide a great foundation for general managerial work as well as entrepreneurial thinking, which is becoming increasingly important. On top of that, you have the opportunity to customize your curriculum according to your preferences through electives and complementary studies. And if you already know that you are interested in founding a business, then MES is a perfect fit for you as well.

Hannah's experiences

02.04.2026 After her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hannah decided to continue her studies at Leuphana in the Master’s program Management & Entrepreneurship. She particularly values the studying in small groups and the open, friendly and interdisciplinary university community.

"The program is particularly well-suited to people who don’t just want to manage existing structures but also want to develop new ideas and drive change."

Why did you choose to study Management & Entrepreneurship?

After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I worked in start-ups. I chose this degree program because its focus ties in closely with my experiences there, allowing me to build effectively on the skills I’d already acquired. Thanks to my wonderful experiences at Leuphana during my Bachelor’s degree, the university was my first choice straight away for my Master’s degree as well. I also already knew most of the professors and lecturers, with whom I have always greatly valued the exchange. For me, Leuphana is a true place of learning. I was also particularly drawn to the fact that you study in small groups. The campus and Lüneburg speak for themselves: the university community is very pleasant, friendly and interdisciplinary.

What were your expectations before you started your Master’s degree at Leuphana, and what do you like most about Management & Entrepreneurship?

Before I started my Master’s degree, I was hoping to build on the knowledge I’d gained during my Bachelor’s degree and through my practical work in start-ups. It was important to me to study in an environment that is not only theoretically sound, but also offers scope for critical thinking, personal exchange and practical questions. That is exactly what I like most about Management & Entrepreneurship: the combination of academic depth, current topics and the opportunity to contribute my own ideas. I find it particularly valuable that we are encouraged to question things and develop our own perspectives.

What did you study before starting your Master’s degree, and how were you able to build on your previous studies?

Before starting my Master’s degree, I had already completed my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Leuphana. There, I developed a solid understanding of economic, social and business contexts. My Master’s degree built on this very well, particularly in terms of strategic thinking, interdisciplinary work and engaging with business issues. My practical experience from working in start-ups also helped me to directly link much of the course content with real-world practice.

How is the Masters program positioned in terms of internationality?

Many of the students in our program come from an international background. This broadens your horizons immensely, as you’re constantly discovering new perspectives, ways of thinking and experiences. This is particularly valuable during discussions and group work. I find it incredibly enriching to gain so many insights into other cultures and, as a result, to continually question my own perspectives.

What do you particularly like about the campus and the city of Lüneburg?

I’d already lived in Lüneburg during my Bachelor’s degree, so I knew how lovely the city is for studying. You can get everywhere by bike, there’s a great range of cultural activities, and the old town is simply beautiful. I particularly like the fact that Lüneburg is, on the one hand, very lively, with lots of lovely cafés and bars at student-friendly prices, and, on the other hand, offers plenty of nature. At the same time, Hamburg is really easy to get to. The campus also plays a big part in making you feel at home; the atmosphere is open, pleasant and very communal.

What is the relationship like with other students and lecturers?

The relationship is really very open and on an eye-to-eye level. Many lecturers address us on a first-name basis, are always approachable and take the time to answer questions. I get the impression that it is really important to them that we don’t just study for exams, but for life, and that we approach topics with a critical mindset. The atmosphere amongst the students is also very respectful and supportive. The teaching methods are varied and often designed to encourage collaborative, interactive discussion, which I find very enriching.

Have you decided on a topic for your Master's thesis yet, and do you have any plans for after graduation?

I’m going to write my Master’s thesis on the topic of female entrepreneurship. I’m very interested in this topic both professionally and personally, because I consider it highly relevant from a social and economic perspective. Afterwards, I would like to pursue a PhD in this field at Leuphana and explore these issues in even greater depth.

Are there any tips you can give new Management & Entrepreneurship Master’s students, that you would have loved to know at the start of your studies?

Looking back, I wish I had realized even more strongly right from the start just how valuable it is to actively make use of the many opportunities the program offers. My advice would therefore be: be open-minded, curious and dare to bring your own interests to the table. It is precisely the small groups and the personal atmosphere that offer the chance to gain a lot and really engage in dialogue. It is very worthwhile to ask questions, seek out conversations with lecturers and engage with topics that may initially seem new or unfamiliar. Often, this is exactly where the most exciting ideas emerge.

Who would you recommend the Management & Entrepreneurship Master's program to, and what difference can MES graduates make?

I would recommend the Master’s to anyone interested in entrepreneurial thinking, keen to take on responsibility and eager to play an active role in shaping things. The program is particularly well-suited to people who don’t just want to manage existing structures but also want to develop new ideas and drive change. In my view, MES graduates can make a real difference because they learn to combine economic issues with social responsibility. This enables them to help shape organizations, teams and projects in a more innovative, reflective and sustainable way.
