Teacher Education for Primary Schools
Masters Programme
The consecutive M. Ed. for teaching in primary schools offers graduates with a major in a relevant field the possibility to systematically further expand their academic knowledge in their subject, while enhancing their professional orientation. The four-semester programme follows the European system of Bachelor and Masters degrees as defined by the Bologna process, and also meets the specific guidelines for teacher education established by the state of Lower Saxony and the conference of cultural affairs ministers.
Please Note: The M. Ed. for teaching in primary schools is offered in the German language and is thus directed at prospective students with a good command of German. The programme’s German-language web pages provide detailed information needed on the content of the course and application procedures.
Content and course structure
Students in the M. Ed. degree for teaching professionals in primary schools study the two instructional subjects that they had already chosen as part of their Bachelor degree while also developing their professional knowledge in the educational sciences.
The following instructional subjects are available for study:
- German
- English
- Mathematics
- Protestant Religion
- Art
- Music
- Social Studies
- Physical Education
A long-time internship at a school in Lower Saxony and a research project are integrated into the curriculum.
The modules Diagnostics and Transitions in the first semester and School Development in the fourth semester offer interdisciplinary topics central to the professionalization of future teachers. The Leuphana degree programme expands and systemizes the specific scientific, didactic and educational knowledge and skills that students acquired in their previous Bachelor studies.
