Accessible Workplace

LIBRARY WORKSTATIONS FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY-IMPAIRED

By putting a library workstation at the disposal of the blind and visually impaired, the MIZ is establishing an infrastructure for better integration and easier access to study material.

In the area of the new learning environment, students with impaired vision will have a special workstation equipped with speech output, Braille display, scanner and printer. Books, journals, etc in the library can be scanned with the special scanner and made accessible for screen readers within Office programs. The book scans can be

  • converted into text formats with OCR software
  • used for output by sound (screen reader)
  • used for output by Braille display
  • greatly enlarged and displayed with higher contrast using Zoomtext 9.1

The workstation also has the following software:

  • Freedom Scientific - Jaws 15.0
  • Abbyy Finereader 11
  • Microsoft Office
  • Citavi

We remain at your disposal for more detailed information.
