Leuphana Card
En Benutzungsbedingungen
A Leuphana Card is issued to Leuphana students and new employees of Leuphana since June 2025. Private users do not receive a Leuphana Card.
No personal data is stored on the Leuphana Card. Loss of or damage to the card must be reported to leuphanacard@leuphana.de. In the event of loss, any available credit cannot be paid out or transferred, as the credit is only stored on the card.
A deposit and fees (totalling €15) will be charged for reissuing the card.
How to get Leuphana Card
Students receive their Leuphana Card during orientation week from their orientation week tutor or directly at the service desk in the foyer.
Employees receive their card when they are hired by the Human Resources department.
A deposit of €10 is charged when a new card is issued. Activation of the library function costs €5.
Paying with the Leuphana Card
The Leuphana Card can be topped up at the card readers in the cafeterias and the library. This can be done with cash, but credit cards and debit cards cannot be used.
Generell
The Leuphana Card combines the cafeteria card, library card, and payment function for printouts and copies. It is available to students and employees (hired as of June 2025). With it, you can:
Pay in all cafeterias of the Student Services Association of Eastern Lower Saxony
Borrow books and other media from the university library (after registering for the library function)
Use multifunction devices for printing, scanning, and copying in the university library
Borrow audio and video recording devices, projectors, laptops, and more from the equipment lending service in Building 7
Is the Leuphana Card also available to employees and private users?
Employees hired by Leuphana since June 2025 receive a Leuphana Card from the Human Resources Department upon hiring.
Private users do not receive a Leuphana Card.
Where can I top-up the Leuphana Card? Are there any differences in the card top-up machines?
Card recharge stations for the Leuphana Card are located in the cafeteria corridor on the main campus and in the foyer of the university library.
The card can be recharged with cash or an EC card.
When topping-up, are the various accounts filled?
The Leuphana Card is like an electronic purse. It means that only one "account" is filled when you load money onto it. If, for example, you load EUR 50.00 onto your card, it makes no difference if you use it to buy food in the canteen, pay fines, or use it to print/copy.
Where do I hand back my Leuphana Card?
Students should return their cards to the library service desk, where the deposit will be refunded if the entitlement still exists.
Employees should return their cards to the Human Resources department.
Any remaining credit can be paid out in the cafeteria before returning the card.
In the libraries, can I continue to pay in cash or with my EC card?
Even after the introduction of the Leuphana Card, it is still possible to pay cash or with an EC card at the library lending desk.
Does the membership of the Leuphana Card expire?
Yes, the card has an expiry date, which is updated every year. In that process, the status of the card holder is checked and stored on the card (this status is necessary for paying at the canteen).
Independently of this, the user authorisation for the library expires every 500 days. It must be refreshed at the library.
Can I have a statement of account showing the payments made with my Leuphana Card?
Yes, this is possible. However, you cannot do this at the library desks; you need to make a separate application at the Students Support Organisation (Studentenwerk). For such applications, you may want write directly to the e-mail address leuphanacard@leuphana.de.
What happens if I lose my Leuphana Card?
You must report the loss of the Leuphana Card immediately. It will be blocked at the library. Then the order to block the card is sent automatically to the Students Support Organisation (Studentenwerk), the IT service, in order to stop the pay function in these places too.
If you lose your card, any money that is still on it cannot be refunded or transferred, as the credit balance is stored only on the card. A replacement card is subject to a new fee (EUR 10.00 deposit + EUR 5.00 handling charge).
