Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Leuphana Card also available to employees and private users?

Not at this moment in time. However, there is ongoing planning to issue them to employees; this step is linked to the restructuration of the time-recording system, amongst others.

Where can I top-up the Leuphana Card? Are there any differences in the card top-up machines?

You will find the Leuphana Card in the refectory corridor on the main campus and in the foyer of the university library.
The card can be reloaded with cash and also with the EC card in the cafeteria corridor.

When topping-up, are the various accounts filled?

The Leuphana Card is like an electronic purse. It means that only one "account" is filled when you load money onto it. If, for example, you load EUR 50.00 onto your card, it makes no difference if you use it to buy food in the canteen, pay fines, or use it to print/copy.

Where do I hand back my Leuphana Card?

Please hand your card back at the library service desk. Money left on the card will be paid back in the canteen.

In the libraries, can I continue to pay in cash or with my EC card?

Even after the introduction of the Leuphana Card, it is still possible to pay cash or with an EC card at the library lending desk.

Does the membership of the Leuphana Card expire?

Yes, the card has an expiry date, which is updated every year. In that process, the status of the card holder is checked and stored on the card (this status is necessary for paying at the canteen).

Independently of this, the user authorisation for the library expires every 500 days. It must be refreshed at the library.

Does my library account password change?

No, the transfer does not affect the password, nor all other personal data stored on it by the library.

Can I have a statement of account showing the payments made with my Leuphana Card?

Yes, this is possible. However, you cannot do this at the library desks; you need to make a separate application at the Students Support Organisation (Studentenwerk). For such applications, you may want write directly to the e-mail address leuphanacard@leuphana.de.

What happens if I lose my Leuphana Card?

You must report the loss of the Leuphana Card immediately. It will be blocked at the library. Then the order to block the card is sent automatically to the Students Support Organisation (Studentenwerk), the IT service, in order to stop the pay function in these places too.

If you lose your card, any money that is still on it cannot be refunded or transferred, as the credit balance is stored only on the card. A replacement card is subject to a new fee (EUR 10.00 deposit + EUR 5.00 handling charge).

Terms of use

No personal data is stored on the Leuphana Card. Loss or damage of the card must be reported to leuphanacard@leuphana.de. If you lose your card, any money that is still on it cannot be refunded or transferred, as the credit balance is stored only on the card. A new card will be issued at the cost of EUR 15.00 for fees and deposit.
