Reference Management

Reference management software helps with saving, managing and editing bibliographical references. They are particularly helpful to create bibliographies, either for term papers, theses or book projects.

The library at Leuphana has purchased a site licence to the reference management software Citavi, allowing all students and staff to make full use of a suite of tools for referencing, writing and collaborating. The library also offers regular introductions to Citavi.

In addition to Citavi, which can be used on Windows systems only, we also offer introductions to Zotero and Mendeley, both of which can be used on Mac systems, too. Even more reference management programs can be found in our compilation of solutions for reference management.

Courses and personal consultation

At the moment we do not offer any events on site. In addition to the self-study materials at the bottom of this page, students and staff can use our online courses on myStudy and Moodle:

  •     Literature management with Citavi 6*
  •     Literature management with Zotero (in preparation)
  •     Literature management with Mendeley

These courses are aimed at beginners. Everything you need to know to start working with Citavi, Zotero or Mendeley, including how to access them, is shown here. You can find the courses in the course list in myStudy (Veranstaltungsverzeichnis > zusätzliche Angebote (ohne CPs) > Universitätsbibliothek > Literaturverwaltung).

*If you work with Citavi 5, you are also welcome to attend this workshop.

Consultation hours

We are happy to help with individual questions and problems concerning the programs and with general questions about the use of reference management programs.

However, our office hours do not currently take place in direct contact. We will be happy to answer your mails with inquiries: For extensive consultations we will be happy to arrange individual appointments via Zoom.

Self-study material

For Citavi, Mendeley and Zotero we offer short introductions. For Citavi, we have also revised the materials from our workshop into comprehensive self-study material.
