The MIZ services – information for first semester students at the Professional School
Welcome to Leuphana University of Lüneburg!
We – the Media and Information Centre (MIZ) – as a combined institution constisting of the University Library, IT and Media Technology offer numerous services to support you during your studies at Leuphana. On this page, we offer you a step-by-step guide to getting started with the most important services. On the subpages, we also inform you about the most important IT services.
Important: The information on this page is intended for students of the Professional School.
College and Graduate School students can find the information relevant to them here.
Step 1: Activate Leuphana account
The Leuphana account is the central IT account for all students. It is used to manage access to various IT services. You can configure and customise your Leuphana account settings on the myAccount page. Here, for example, you can change the passwords for various Leuphana IT services and activate specific services.
Name and password of your Leuphana account
If you provided a valid mobile phone number in your application to Leuphana, you will receive an email with the name of your Leuphana account and an SMS with an activation code after your enrolment. If you have not received an SMS with an activation code yet, please contact Student Services.
Your Leuphana account name consists of a random combination of numbers and letters (e.g. 1ab-cd2).
However, you only use the name of your Leuphana account as login name for account administration and a few services (see Login name and password management). For all other services, you log in with your Leuphana email address as login name and not with the name of the Leuphana account.
Activation of the Leuphana account
The Leuphana account is activated on the page myaccount.leuphana.de. Click on the icon "Activate Account" below the "Login" button, then on the button "Activate Leuphana Account". Enter your username and the activation code. Then follow the further instructions to complete your activation.
After activating the account, the Leuphana password must be reset. This is initially valid for all services that are available via the Leuphana account.
Under "Applications > Password management" you can set separate passwords for individual sections that differ from the Leuphana password. For security reasons, we recommend that you at least set a differing WLAN password. If nothing happens when you click on the corresponding tile, then your browser is most likely blocking the opening of pop-up windows and displays this in the upper area of the window. Allow the pop-up windows for the myAccount page and then proceed with the password change.
To find out your Leuphana email address, click on your name in the top right corner and then on "My Profile" after activating your Leuphana account. You will find your email address under the heading "Email".
You can find out which login names and passwords to use for which services in the following overview:

Upon enrolment, you receive a Leuphana email address and a corresponding email inbox. This is where you will receive all important emails for your studies, for example from the university administration and regarding your courses. You can log in to your email inbox with your Leuphana email address and cloud password.
You don't know your Leuphana email address (anymore)? Log in to myaccount.leuphana.de with your Leuphana account name and your Leuphana password. Click on your name in the upper right corner and then on "My Profile". You will find your email address under the heading "Email".

Step 3: Install VPN client
Unlike full-time students at the College and Graduate School, you study part-time and often from home. In order to access the library's digital contents, you need a secure connection to the Leuphana network. This is established via VPN using a corresponding client. Install the client and then test that it is working. You log in with the name of your Leuphana account and your Leuphana password.
Instructions
Information on installing and using the VPN client can be found here.
Important: To access the library's contents, please connect to the VPN group "Online Research".

myCampus is Leuphana's campus management system. It digitally maps the student life cycle and accompanies you from your application to your final thesis. At the beginning of the semester, you can update your correspondence and home address here and check the status of your semester fee payment. As soon as the corresponting registration period begins, you can register for assessments in myCampus. You can also view your achievements, retrieve study certificates and transcripts and submit your thesis digitally at the end of your degree programme.
