PubData: Share & Archive Knowledge

2026-03-05

During research projects, valuable publications, datasets, and other resources are created. The platform PubData (pubdata.leuphana.de) enables members of Leuphana to permanently archive their academic output and publish it free of charge in Open Access or under regulated conditions of use. The prerequisite is that the materials were created in the context of research, teaching, or studying at Leuphana.

The spectrum ranges from literature publications such as books, reports, and theses to teaching and learning materials, multimedia and web formats, as well as interviews, measurement data, and survey instruments. All published resources and datasets receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), are citable in the long term, and can be found worldwide via search engines and academic information systems.

PubData is operated and continuously developed by the Media and Information Centre (MIZ).

Providing & Archiving Research Data

PubData serves as a data repository for the preservation of research data in accordance with the rules of good scientific practice (see Leuphana’s guideline: https://www.leuphana.de/fileadmin/user_upload/forschung/Files/transparenz/Gazette_2022_56_2022-07-22.pdf). It supports the professional long-term storage of submitted research data and related contextual materials (usually for 10 years). In addition, PubData offers the possibility to publish research data according to international standards and in line with the FAIR principles. Further information can be found here: https://www.leuphana.de/en/services/miz/research-publish/research-data-management.html

Publishing Dissertations & Archiving Related Data

According to the doctoral regulations, the publication requirement is fulfilled if dissertations are published electronically via PubData. In this case, submitting printed copies to the library is no longer required. The research data underlying the dissertation must be preserved or made accessible through archiving or publication, provided this is legally and technically possible. This can be done via PubData.
Further information on procedures and requirements can be found here: https://www.leuphana.de/en/services/miz/research-publish/doctoral-postdoctoral-theses.html

Publishing Student Work

Students may publish their results from Leuphana studies on PubData (e.g. term papers, theses, project reports, podcasts). Publishing these materials requires a recommendation from the supervisor or reviewer. In the case of qualification and examination papers, an additional requirement is that they have been graded better than 2.5. Further information on publishing student work can be found here: https://www.leuphana.de/en/services/miz/research-publish/student-thesis-co.html

Services for Secondary Publication

PubData can be used not only to publish new materials, but also to make content available that has already been published elsewhere (e.g. by a publisher). Such secondary publication via PubData increases visibility, especially for publications that were originally published behind a paywall. The PubData team assesses whether and under which conditions secondary publication is possible, clarifies rights with publishers upon request, and takes care of the technical preparation and upload of the files to PubData.

How to Submit Materials

You can submit data and publications independently via PubData. The submission process is described here: https://www.leuphana.de/en/services/miz/research-publish/platform-pubdata.html#c883749
