The Department of Software Development, E-Science and Media Management supports research, teaching, studies, and administration at Leuphana with (digital) services, infrastructure, and customized IT solutions.

Software development & customized IT solutions

We develop customized software solutions for scientific projects and research applications. In addition, we support IT-based systems in the context of administrative digitization projects – from technical design and implementation to ongoing operation and maintenance.

Publishing & Open Access

Our publishing service assists members of Leuphana with electronic publishing:

• We provide funding opportunities for open access publications with publishers
• We operate the institutional repository PubData. Here, scientific publications by researchers, teaching staff, and students at Leuphana are made available free of charge, curated, and disseminated. This includes dissertations, reports, theses, articles, videos, podcasts, teaching and learning materials, and other formats
• We accept deposit copies of dissertations
• We manage gift and exchange publications as part of the international university publication exchange program
• In the research information system Pure, we maintain and validate the publications of Leuphana members for quality assurance and visibility of scientific achievements
• We advise Leuphana members on various topics related to publishing (e.g. funding opportunities for open access publications, selecting suitable open access journals and publishers, granting Creative Commons licenses, publishing works in different locations (secondary publications), avoiding predatory journals, and using ORCID and other research identifiers)

Research data management

We support researchers in handling research data in various ways, including:

• Consulting, support, and information services for data management
• Repository PubData for storing, archiving, and publishing research data

Media Management & Information Resources

Our department organizes the acquisition of print media and the licensing of electronic resources for the university. In doing so, we ensure a comprehensive supply of academic literature. To facilitate retrieval and research, we index all media formats according to subject and content criteria in the local library catalogue, in the literature search engine LUX, and in national and international cataloguing systems.
