Transferring from other universities
Three Steps to Academic Recognition
Obtain a module description for the courses you have completed and which you may wish to have recognised. Compare these module descriptions with the modules of your current degree programme.
For each individual module that you consider to be comparable, please complete the ‘Application for Recognition’ form.
For each module you wish to have recognised from another degree programme, you must complete an application form and submit the relevant evidence of the work already completed (transcript of records, subject-specific appendix detailing the module content). Please contact the responsible module coordinator.
Send the application for recognition, together with your Transcript of Records and the module description from your previous higher education institution, to the relevant module coordinators (this may be one of several people, including the major or minor programme coordinators, the module coordinators for the Leuphana Semester, and the Complementary Studies team).
Please note: a module description is essential; the Transcript of Records alone is not sufficient.
Once the person responsible has signed the application, please submit it, together with the corresponding supporting documents, to Student Services. The relevant examination board will then decide on your application for recognition. We will inform you of the decision in writing. If you have any further questions, the staff at Student Services will be happy to help.
Academic Recognition from Abroad
The Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) determines which universities abroad are recognised for academic credits in Germany.
If you wish to submit academic credits from abroad for recognition, please check whether the university is listed as ‘h+’ in the anabin database.
Grades obtained at a foreign higher education institution which is not a Leuphana partner institution but which uses a linear grading system are – even if they are not directly comparable – converted using the so-called ‘Modified Bavarian Formula’ (MBF) and included in the calculation of the overall mark.
Grades obtained at a foreign university that is not a Leuphana partner university and does not use a linear (comparable) grading system will not be recognised. The examination results will be recognised as ‘pass’ without a grade.
Are you transferring to us from a partner university? In that case, your grades will be converted into the German grading system in accordance with the current grade conversion table.
