I have applied for a place at the University. What will happen next?
After the application deadline (usually 15 July each year), the multi-stage admission procedure for Leuphana College begins. First, the study places are allocated in the statutory quotas. After admission of this first group, a ranking of all applicants is made for each study programme based on the grade of the university entrance qualification. The 25% applicants with the highest scores in this ranking will be admitted.
The remaining places are allocated after the selection procedure has been carried out. A new ranking list is used to invite applicants to the selection procedure. The grade of the higher education entrance qualification and extracurricular commitment are taken into account when drawing up the ranking list. The invitations to the selection procedure are sent per e-mail approximately one week before the selection day of the respective study programme.
What is the difference between admission process, selection procedure and selection day?
The admission process describes the entire process that takes place after an application has been received. For example, it is checked whether you can be offered a place via the waiting period quota or the best quota. If this is not the case, possible points (maximum 5) for extracurricular commitment are added to your score determined according to the HZB grade and a new ranking list is created. This ranking list forms the basis for the invitations to the selection procedure. The selection procedure includes taking the aptitude test and, if applicable, the selection interview. The points obtained there are added to your existing score and the ranking list for admissions after the selection procedure is drawn up. The day on which you write the aptitude test and, if applicable, the selection interview on site is called the selection day.
What is the maximum number of points I can get for extracurricular achievements?
Applicants can achieve a maximum of five additional points, with points being awarded only once in each category. You can find detailed information on the relevant activities and skills here. Applicants may also claim international equivalents for the respective activities and skills and substantiate them with corresponding evidence in a certified Germand translation.
For which study programmes does the study skills test take place?
The study skills test is conducted for all study programmes.
Can I prepare for the study skills test?
It is neither necessary nor possible to prepare for the study skills test in any particular way.
To give you an impression of the task groups, we have put together German sample tasks (for German-language study programmes) and English sample tasks (for English-language study programmes).
What is the maximum number of points I can score in the study skills test?
You can score a maximum of 24 points on the study skills test.
Which study programmes conduct selection interviews?
Selection interviews are currently being held in the study programmes Global Environmental Sustainability Studies, Lehren und Lernen, Studium Individuale and Umweltwissenschaften.
How can I prepare for the selection interview?
The selection interviews consist of a 20-minute individual interview followed by a short presentation (5 min + 5 min for follow-up questions).
Topics of the individual interview include motivation for the study programme and Leuphana University.
For the selection interview you have to prepare a five-minute presentation on a topic of your own choice. It should be a current and socially relevant topic. Bring an outline of your presentation in duplicate to the selection interviews. Please refrain from preparing PowerPoint presentations. These cannot be reproduced.
What is the maximum number of points I can score in the selection interview?
You can score a maximum of 24 points for the selection interview.
I have applied for the subject Mathematics. How does it work with the maths test?
Applicants for the subject Mathematics in the study programmes Teaching and Learning take a 45-minute subject knowledge test in Mathematics on contents of Secondary Level 1. All applicants for the subject Mathematics can take this test. There is no separate invitation.
The maximum score in the mathematics test is 24 points. You must solve at least 30 per cent of the problems correctly to receive points. If you solve less than 30 percent of the problems correctly, you will receive zero points. The mathematics test is counted against the study skills test, for this purpose the average of the scores achieved in both tests is calculated.
If you have not received an invitation to the selection procedure, i.e. you cannot take part in the study skills test, but nevertheless take part in the mathematics test, the study skills test will be counted as zero points.
How can I apply if I have acquired a higher education entrance qualification in a non-EU/EEA country?
5% of the study places are available for applicants who have acquired a higher education entrance qualification in a non-EU/EEA country. You can find all information on the application process under "International applicants".

Are you engaged abroad at the time of the test or interview or are you abroad for professional reasons or language acquisition (no holidays or travel)? Is your main place of residence abroad? In these cases you can - subject to your later invitation to the Leuphana study skills test - take the ITB-ASET online as a substitute for the Leuphana study skills test which takes place in person.
You can find information on this on the page of the selection procedure.
I have a health impairment. How can I take part in the study skills test or the selection interview?
it is important to us that you do not suffer any disadvantages due to a health impairment (in the sense of a chronic or mental illness or a disability). In this case, please contact us (auswahl.college@leuphana.de) so that we can clarify the details.
