Entry requirements

Applying with German university entrance qualifications ("HZB" for short)

If you are intending to apply to Leuphana College, please first check whether you meet the entry requirements. Alongside the general entry requirements, specific entry requirements also apply for programmes at the College.

Applying with non-German University Entrance Qualifications
Information for applicants with non-German school-leaving certificates can be found on the web pages for international applicants.

General entry requirements

The basic entry requirement is a valid university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB).

General higher education entrance qualification (Allgemeine Hochschulreife / Abitur)

The Allgemeine Hochschulreife is a general entrance qualification for all universities in Germany that is not limited to specific subjects or fields. It is generally acquired by passing the Abitur assessment. The Allgemeine Hochschulreife can also be acquired at German schools outside Germany by passing the Reifeprüfung, Hochschulreifeprüfung or Deutsche Internationale Abiturprüfung assessments.
Your school leaving certificate will state whether or not you hold the Allgemeine Hochschulreife.

Other qualifications

University entrance qualifications can be obtained in Germany through various routes. The following qualifications also entitle you to commence a degree at the College:

  • Allgemeine Fachhochschulreife
  • Professional qualifications (Meister/in, Techniker/in etc.)
  • Completion of a three-year vocational training programme (Ausbildung)
  • Immaturenprüfung or Z-Prüfung

These are qualifications that can only be acquired within the German education system. You can find more information on the qualifications above on the German website.

Specific entry requirements

In addition to a valid university entrance qualification (general entry requirement), you may for certain programmes also need to demonstrate proficiency in English. Applicants for teacher training in music and physical education must pass a qualifying examination or aptitude test.
