For major Engineering

If you are intending to take the major Engineering at Leuphana College, you will need to provide proof of proficiency in English in addition to a valid university entrance qualification. Applicants who have acquired their IB Diploma outside Germany will also need to provide proof of proficiency in German.

Proof of English proficiency

All applicants must provide proof of English proficiency also if they apply for a German degree programme.  Please therefore include one of the following documents with your application:

English test

The following tests will be accepted as proof of sufficient proficiency in English:

The proof of the English grade can be found on the copy of the university entrance qualification (diploma). This also applies to applicants who have completed their Abitur assessment at a German school abroad.

Native language

The following certificate is accepted for English as a native language:

  • Certificate from an English-speaking school that entitles the holder to study in the respective country

Your university entrance qualification and not your nationality will be taken as proof.

Important notes on the proof of English language skills

Proof of English proficiency must be submitted by 15 July. The date of submission is the date of receipt by Leuphana and not the date postmarked. Only the relevant final certificate will be accepted as proof. Certificates of participation or documents that only list the number of hours will not be accepted.
If you cannot submit the necessary documents with your application, you will be accepted conditionally and must present the required proof by the end of your second semester at the latest. Students who fail to provide proof of proficiency by this deadline shall be de-registered.
