WHAT NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE TIMETABLE FOR THE LEUPHANA SEMESTER?

Example timetable for the Leuphana Semester at Leuphana College

HOW DO I CREATE MY TIMETABLE?

Course Catalogue

The course catalogue will be published on myStudy before the start of the term. To access the course catalogue, you will need to create a myStudy account. On the myStudy homepage, you will find a user guide for students explaining how to set up your account.

Registration for Courses

From the start of October, course registration will be open on myStudy. Places on compulsory courses are usually allocated via a waiting list system with no cap on the number of students. For courses with a limited number of places, a lottery system may be used.

Important Information

When drawing up your timetable, we recommend that you consult the Examination Regulations (Rahmenprüfungsordnung) for your study programme (major or teacher training) and the Annex to the Leuphana Semester. As a teacher training student, you will also need the subject-specific annexes (FSA) for the teacher training programmes / teaching subjects.

In the appendix to the Leuphana Semester, as well as in the subject-specific appendices for the teacher training programmes / teaching subjects, you will find the relevant guidelines on which modules you must complete during your first semester at the college.

Support with timetable planning

During the opening week, tutors will be on hand to help you with any questions you may have about planning your timetable for the Leuphana Semester. During the first weeks of the semester, the tutors from the Leuphana Semester Tutorial will also be available to assist you.

Timetable

What is a timetable – and what should it include?

Unlike at school, you won’t be given a ready-made timetable at university. You put it together yourself: you choose the seminars and lectures you would like to attend in the coming semester from the course catalogue, and register for them.

However, the choice is not entirely free. For your first semester, the modules you are required to take are set. Within these guidelines, you decide which specific courses to attend and when they fit into your weekly timetable.

Your timetable for the Leuphana Semester usually consists of the compulsory modules for the Leuphana Semester, the courses in your degree programme (major or teacher training), as well as time set aside for preparation, follow-up work and self-study. For guidance, here is a sample timetable for the first semester at Leuphana College.

1. Find out which modules are compulsory

Before you make your selection, check which modules are compulsory for you. Please feel free to use the timetable checklist we have provided. Further, more detailed guidelines can be found in two documents: the appendix to the Leuphana Semester lists the modules that all first-year students must complete in their first semester. The Examination Regulations (RPO) for your study programme set out the overall structure of your studies – including which modules are due when.

If you are studying teacher training, there is a third source to consult: the subject-specific syllabuses (FSA) for the subjects you will be teaching. These set out which modules are scheduled for your respective subject in the first semester.

2. Browse the course catalogue

The course catalogue contains the full range of courses on offer for the semester. It is published on the myStudy platform shortly before lectures begin. You will need a myStudy account to access it. Make sure you set one up in good time – on the myStudy homepage, you will find a user guide to help you through the set-up process.

Look through the course catalogue for courses that match your compulsory modules, and make a note of several alternatives. It’s worth it: you won’t automatically be allocated a place on every course.

3. Registering for courses

Registration opens on myStudy from the start of October. You can register for your chosen courses there. How places are allocated depends on the course: for compulsory courses with no enrolment limit, simply registering is sufficient – everyone who has registered will be able to attend. For courses with a limited number of places, a lottery may be held if more people register than there are places available.

So, make sure you register within the deadlines and have some alternatives ready in case you don’t get your first-choice course.

Who can help you with this?

You don’t have to do this on your own – support is available: during the opening week, tutors will guide you and answer any questions you have about putting together your timetable. In the first few weeks of the semester, the tutors from the Leuphana Semester Tutorium will also be on hand to help. If you have any further questions, please contact the Student Counselling Service.

Here you can continue with exams.
