Teach with confidence and help students become better writers in the age of AI

Are you planning your first steps in university teaching or looking to expand your didactic repertoire? This hands-on summer school specifically prepares you for your first teaching assignment and the challenges of cross-disciplinary thinking in particular. You will develop the skills needed to facilitate students learning and to foster their development as academic writers.

What to expect

  • Fundamentals of Higher Education Pedagogy: Planning and designing engaging instruction.
  • Interdisciplinary Teaching: Confidently navigating interdisciplinary contexts.
  • The Role of the Instructor: Professionally guiding students as learning facilitators.
  • Writing-Sensitive Pedagogy: Teaching academic writing and critical thinking.
  • AI in teaching: Integrating AI meaningfully and responsibly.
  • Feedback & assessment: Evaluating texts and reflections fairly and transparently.
  • Practical Experience: The summer school prepares you for an optional teaching assignment in the Transformation Module (Leuphana Semester) in the winter 2026/27 semester. You have access to a wide range of resources such as course materials and group coaching.

Structure & Dates
The program begins with a digital kick-off on June 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. At the same time, doctoral candidates will begin flexible online preparation. This will be followed by an in-person week from July 13–17, 2026, in Lüneburg. By completing an accompanying portfolio, you will earn a certificate; the portfolio itself serves as a foundation for your future teaching portfolio

The summer school is offered in two sections, one in German (25 places) and one in English (18 places), with a total of 43 places available. Please indicate your preferred language when applying.

Target Group: Doctoral candidates from all disciplines.

No participation Fee: Participation in the summer school is free of charge for all participants.
