2025-04-22 With the new, English-language minor in Entrepreneurship, Leuphana College is opening up a space for visionary students of all majors. The interdisciplinary program is aimed at anyone who wants to develop entrepreneurial ideas and have an impact on society. The innovative course will start next winter semester under the direction of Prof. Dr. Steffen Farny and Prof. Dr. Monika Imschloß with a practical, experience-based approach.

“Entrepreneurship is understood comprehensively in this minor. It's not just about classic start-ups, but also about entrepreneurial thinking and action in terms of social responsibility,” explains Prof. Dr. Monika Imschloß.

“In my view, the innovative aspect of the minor is that it combines entrepreneurship theories and the experiential level”, reports Prof. Dr. Steffen Farny.

The aim of the new minor is to impart key skills for entrepreneurial thinking and responsible action. The structure of the program is modular and is divided into three phases: The first two modules of the minor serve as a theoretical introduction and shape how students think about entrepreneurship. The following two modules are geared towards an experience-based approach. Students use case studies to discuss examples of responsible entrepreneurship. In addition, students in the minor have the opportunity to hear about the experiences and approaches of selected founders and learn from them. The last two modules are particularly action-oriented and serve to approach the implementation of the students' start-up ideas. “In my view, the innovative aspect of the minor is that it combines entrepreneurship theories and the experiential level. The reference to responsible entrepreneurship and social transformation remains central throughout,” reports Prof. Dr. Steffen Farny.

“Entrepreneurship is understood comprehensively in this minor. It's not just about classic start-ups, but also about entrepreneurial thinking and action in terms of social responsibility,” explains Prof. Dr. Monika Imschloß. “In addition to a theoretical consideration of responsible entrepreneurship, the focus is on learning from the experiences of people who have already founded a company. This should give students the opportunity to decide for themselves whether this is the right path for them”.

The Entrepreneurship minor is intended to appeal to a range of students with different skills and interests. “The aim is to find interdisciplinary teams that cover precisely this range at Leuphana and ultimately open up opportunities for finding and developing ideas together,” says Prof. Dr. Monika Imschloß.

“We want to encourage students to experience entrepreneurial thinking and action at first hand during their studies. The minor promotes personal development as it goes beyond strengthening analytical skills. In a protected space with intensive support, students are given the opportunity to develop entrepreneurship skills and find out how an entrepreneurial approach to problems can enrich their own career path,” explains Prof. Dr. Steffen Farny.
