Psychology provides unique insights with regard to societal challenges, e.g. sustainability, digitalization, public health, societal conflicts. The goal of the Psychology and Society minor is to enable you to analyse psychological processes in this context and to create applications based on psychological knowledge.

Studying Psychology and Society minor

The Psychology and Society minor conveys the knowledge and builds the competencies to understand and influence crucial psychological processes in diverse socially relevant fields.

You will be introduced into theoretical and empirical groundwork of the core applied psychological disciplines work, organisational, and economic psychology and educational psychology. Furthermore, you will get insights into current topics in health psychology, political psychology, psychology of sustainability, and media psychology.

You will learn to analyse societal problems from a psychological perspective, to influence psychological processes in interventions and educational offers, and develop strategies and solutions for conducting evaluations and field research.

Throughout the programme, you will have the opportunity to reflect upon your role in the work field you are striving for, and on how to use psychology to the benefit of society in general.

The psychological BSc programs at Leuphana University (major/minors) do not qualify for the approbation test in psychotherapy.

Leuphana Bachelor: Studying at College

In the Leuphana Bachelor with Psychology and Society minor, you combine specialist knowledge with solution-oriented thinking and responsible action. The Leuphana Semester and Complementary Studies provide the framework for dealing with socially relevant topics outside your chosen major/minor combination. They are an integral part of the Leuphana Bachelor and give you the freedom to immerse yourself in different fields of knowledge and to develop viable solutions for the challenges of the future together with other college students.

The Psychology and Society minor (30 CP) is embedded in the Leuphana Bachelor withLeuphana Semester, Major and Complementary Studies. You start your Bachelor studies with the Leuphana Semester (30 CP). The first semester at Leuphana College gives you the opportunity to deal fundamentally with science. The Minor deepens or supplements your major (90 CP) with another subject area. In Complementary Studies (30 CP) you have the freedom to pursue your thirst for knowledge individually by immersing yourself in a different field of knowledge each semester.

*As a student in the Psychology and Society minor, you will participate in scientific studies at Leuphana University of Lüneburg in a total of 10h. In the module 'Empirical Research Project' you will then recruit students from the younger semesters for your own research work. In this way, you mutually contribute to gaining scientific knowledge.
