LEUPHANA CONFERENCE WEEK 2020: 26.02. - 28.02.2020

Who will pay the price for our wealth?

From Adam Smith up until the Europe of the 2020ies: The Conference Week considers the roots of the wealth of Europe by focusing both on its extraordinary and historically unique wealth - and on its strategy of transferring the costs for this wealth to different parts of the world and to future generations.

Together with around 1500 first semester students, you started your studies with a project on the topic “Sharing in a Globalized World” in October 2019. During the 13^th Conference Week, you will present the ideas you developed in the module “Responsibility and Sustainability” to both the university and the whole city.

Accompanied by experts from politics, society, economy and science, you will reflect on the wealth of Europe in times of global changes. Diverse panels, workshops and exhibitions inspire you to a close look into the future. Renowned guests such as vice chancellor Olaf Scholz, climate activist Lisa Neubauer, Stephan Weil (minister-president), the intellectual Gesine Schwan, the Islamic Scientist Lamya Kaddor and bishop Heiner Wilmer look forward to meeting you between 26^th and 28^th February 2020.

Arenas, "Seminarplenen" and Exhibitions

The conference week reinvents itself every year. This is due to the protagonists of the conference - the students in the Leuphana Semester: they are the ones who play a decisive role in planning the “Projektgruppen Sessions”, “Seminarplenen” and the Gallery Walk.And they process the ideas and input presented to them by guests and lecturers in the arenas and workshops. Under the title "The Wealth of Europe", they will jointly search for the rules of responsible science.

The formats

The formats define the roles and perspectives of the conference topics. For students, they are a test under real conditions. In order to test the study and examination achievements, the conference invites students to take part in practical and exciting formats. The students choose their individual conference program from those formats.

ARENA

The arenas propose in front of a large audience ideas and thoughts for more sustainability. They are the venue for the major lectures and panel discussions. Well-known guests from all over the country will be sharing their thoughts and ideas.

PROJEKTGRUPPEN SESSION

Four project groups from two seminars exchange information about their steps into the field of responsible science: In each session they have half an hour to present their semester results to each other. One session takes 180 minutes - time to learn from each other to measure research paths. The lecturers take the oral examination of the young researchers. Interested listeners are very welcomed.

GALLERY WALK

The foyer of the central building is the heart of the conference. Student project groups invite to talks. As an interactive meeting point, the Gallery Walk is aimed at interested individuals and at guided tours. Through films, installations and posters, the young researchers present their results and deliver their oral examination.

SEMINARPLENUM

When a seminar as a whole meets to spend 120 minutes looking for responsible solutions, it is under the umbrella of the seminar plans. They bring the individual perspectives together and place them in the context of the project seminar. As part of the course work, they aim to engage in a scientific discussion with all participants - with and without an audience.

THE “SALZKRISTALL”

WHO WILL WIN THE JURY PRIZE 2020?

Posters, podcasts and interactive lectures are already waiting for their presentation at the conference week. The competition "Salzkristall 2020" honors particularly creative and convincing presentations of the conference week. Under the jury chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Gerd Michelsen, all submitted competition contributions will be 'reviewed' directly during the conference week. The “Salzkristall 2020” will be awarded and presented at the closing event on 28 February.

The Team

Who is behind the Leuphana Conference Week?

Dedicated networkers who set off with a good 1,500 students for the 13th Leuphana Conference Week 2020. They were able to win over practitioners and scientists to bring their ideas for a responsible world to the conference arenas. A seminar from the complementary study programme, together with the Conference Week Team, will keep the organisational overview of heads and footprints. Over the course of months, students and staff of the university have grown together to form the conference team - and will take off with you.
