What are quality circles?
Quality circles are an important tool for advancement of your study programs, as well as the teaching that is being offered within them. The quality circle is an opportunity for students and lecturers to come together and discuss both the strengths and the weaknesses of the program with the program Director as well as other lecturers. The fact that these quality circles are conducted regularly is a defining feature of the quality development at Leuphana University Lüneburg.

When do quality circles take place?
Quality circles are conducted annually for major programs and every two years for minor programs.

Why is it important for you to attend?
The quality circle is designed as a feedback tool and is supposed to bring together students and lecturers to work together to improve a program and/or talk about current problems. A report documenting the results of the quality circle will be composed after that. Based on this report, measures will be taken to improve the study program. At the next quality circle, there will be a status update in how far the measures have been implemented. Therefore, the quality circle is a space for students to exert direct influence on their study programs.

A short summary of everything you need to know about quality circles at Leuphana University Lüneburg can be found at:

In case you want to prepare for the quality circle, the program-screening-data for the program has been made available on myStudy (material).

In this seminar, fourth semester students cultivate the key competences of planning, decision-making, reflection and well-informed justification. To enrich and support students with the challenging process of constructing their curriculum for themselves, this seminar creates a space in which diverse aspects of their educational experiences – within and beyond the university – can be brought together in thoughtful interaction. In so doing, this seminar will push toward the frontiers of fusing personal and academic inquiry.
The taught element of this module will combine in-class activities (as long as possible) with digital activities and one-on-one discussion with academic staff to consciously foster abilities in reflection, integration, collaboration and communication. This will allow a space in which to draw together and strengthen work undertaken elsewhere in their studies and to merge activities beyond the classroom within academic profiles.

The seminar draws from several disciplines: Philosophy, psychology, cognitive science, sociology and others to provide the key concepts.

an involvierte Team realisiert.
Kouoh hat im Jahr 2008 in Dakar (Senegal) die RAW Material Company – Center for Art, Knowledge
and Society gegründet, die junge afrikanische Künstler*innen und Intellektuelle fördern sollte. Im
Jahr 2019 wurde Kouoh Chefkuratorin und Executive Director des Zeitz Museum of
Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Kapstadt (Südafrika).
marginalisiert waren.

In this seminar, we will examine key classical texts on the theory of memory and discuss current texts as well as case studies on issues of collective and cultural memory. The seminar will thus contain reading, analysis, and discussion of academic literature, group work and excursions to memorial sites and places of remembrance.
The seminar design follows a special method: we will alternate between sessions devoted to reading and discussing texts according to a familiar pattern and sessions devoted to discussing a case study (the ‘teaching with cases’ method). The case-based seminar discussion differs from conventional seminars and especially lectures in that most of the speaking time is allocated to the students who are discussing a ‘case’ (based on a 1-2 page written description of a problem). In doing so, you will contribute your specific individual experiences and your understanding of the relevant literature to the seminar. The example cases show that there is no clearly ‘correct’ solution; you will see that you and the other participants may have extremely different assessments of the situations described.
In addition, some sessions will be replaced by excursions to museums and memorial sites.
