Student life in Lüneburg
Despite its small size, Lüneburg has a lot to offer anyone looking to pass time in the city. Visiting museums and cinemas, watching a concert or musical in the theatre, exploring Stintmarkt or simply shopping in the main square.
If you prefer to be in nature, you are also in luck! Lüneburg is known for its sustainability and green spaces. The best part of all this? You can reach pretty much everything by bike. Whether it’s campus, a cozy café or the main train station, you are never more than a quick ride away.
One highlight you can’t miss is the Lunatic Festival, a music and arts event organized by students, turning the campus into a buzzing festival ground every summer. Besides that, you can participate in various cultural activities and events hosted by Mosaique or the Association for Student Affairs.
And if you ever want a change of scenery, Hamburg is just 30 minutes away by train. If you are ever looking for that big city feeling with its endless cultural events, concerts and restaurants, it’s the perfect spot for a quick getaway or weekend adventure.
All this to say that Lüneburg has plenty to offer from vibrant markets and student hangouts to exciting events right on campus, there is always something going on.
From Lüneburg to the world
At Leuphana, you become part of an international community from day one. Students from all over the world come together on campus, and you can join international initiatives and projects that broaden your perspective beyond the classroom. During your studies, you have the chance to spend a semester abroad at one of our many partner universities—or even earn a double degree through select programs. Whether at home or abroad, you’ll gain the intercultural experience, language skills, and global mindset that prepare you for an international future.
Studying abroad
Exchange semesters
Unlike a double degree program, a semester abroad allows you to choose between different target countries and institutions, as Leuphana University has access to a network of over 100 partner universities worldwide. Experience shows that our students gain a great deal from these international stays: in addition to great friendships and a professional network, above all language skills, personal development on various levels, an understanding of other cultures and a broader view of what is happening in the world. Students are encouraged to incorporate a semester abroad into their studies. The third or fourth semester is often the most suitable time for this. In some cases, students do an internship abroad instead of a semester abroad, or in addition to it. In both cases, our International Center supports the students.
Double degrees
In selected programs, Leuphana offers the chance to pursue a double degree in cooperation with international partner universities. This means you can earn two degrees—one from Leuphana and one from the partner institution—within a single course of study. A double degree gives you deeper academic insight, unique international experience, and excellent career prospects in an increasingly global job market. Currently, double degree options are offered in the the following bachelor programs:
- Digital Media - in cooperation with the City University of Hong Kong
- Political Science - in cooperation with the Université Paris-Est Créteil (requires language proficiency in German and French)
- International Business Administration & Entrepreneurship - in cooperation with the University of Glasgow
