Bachelor´s Degree in Business Law

Hiring a new employee, negotiating with the workers' council, taking on a loan, switching legal forms, finalizing a sales contract or expanding abroad—almost all economic decisions in a business are made within a legal framework.

The business law major qualifies students for work in businesses and other organizations that need both legal and business administrative competence.
The business law program began in 1994 at Leuphana as Federal pilot project and has often been imitated since. The major in business law stands in the tradition of this successful pilot project. It is defined by its special combination of law and business administration. The intersection of these two areas produces its own academic and occupation field. About two thirds of the coursework concerns business-related legal topics, such as business-, contract-, debt-, labor-, or tax law. In the business administrative portion of the program, which makes up the remaining third, students learn the general foundations of business administration. They work on selected topics, such as personnel managements, finance, accounting or corporate management. The major is both practically and internationally oriented. The acquisition of key qualifications, such as for example the business legal implications of contract negotiations or “Business and Legal English” is integrated into the curriculum. As a result, graduates have a basic academic knowledge of law and business administrative at their command.  In addition they have the ability to apply this knowledge to concrete business problems.

Educational goals

The business law major integrates various academic approaches and problem areas. Students are able to combine complementary fields of knowledge—directly into the business world. In this program you will learn to apply legal considerations to business questions. Furthermore the business law major will teach you how to connect social and academic skills. Our graduates have the realistic expectation to develop concrete solutions within the context of complex interrelations.
