M.A. Governance and Human Rights: Professional & career prospects
The professional, part-time Master's program in Governance and Human Rights has an international focus and opens up wide-ranging career prospects at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and practice. Graduates are equipped to lead rights-based initiatives and shape institutions that are fair, accountable, and effective.
The program's distinctive strength lies in combining governance and human rights: good governance provides the institutions needed to implement human rights, while human rights give governance its direction and standards.
Graduates work across a broad spectrum from international policy to corporate compliance such as:
- Human rights officer in international organisations (UN, EU, Council of Europe)
- Policy advisor in government, ministries, or public authorities
- Diplomatic service and development cooperation
- Project and programme manager in NGOs and foundations
- Advocacy, campaigning, and human rights education
- Consultant in governance, human rights, and public policy
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability management
- Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) specialist
- Human rights compliance officer in companies
- Academic career in research and teaching
For some of our graduates, the skills they acquired during their studies have opened doors to these employers. Others have taken on new areas of responsibility and roles with the same employers thanks to their additional qualifications.
