Over two semesters, you will explore sustainable chemistry, circular economy strategies, and life cycle-based assessment tools, applying SSbD principles to real-world challenges. Your advanced training in SSbD comprises a total of 3 modules from the Master Sustainable Chemistry:
- Concepts of Sustainable Chemistry
- Resources, Recycling & Circular Economy
- Sustainability Assessment
Certificate Safe and Sustainable by Design: Online Learning
Online study
Your further education in the Safe & Sustainable by Design certificate takes place online during the two semesters of study. This format allows you the greatest possible flexibility in your further education without pausing your career. Throughout the certificate programme, our learning platform is available to you online around the clock, while continuous support from our lecturers and coordination team is available.
The degree for your certificate programme
You can choose whether you want to take exams as part of Safe & Sustainable by Design certificate programme and thus acquire a university certificate and proof of credit points at the end. You can also take the certificate without taking exams and receive a certificate of attendance at the end.

Application: Your path to the certificate Safe and Sustainable by Design
The Safe and Sustainable by Design certificate programme starts in the summer semester of each year in March. Applications are possible until 31 January of each year.
You must meet the following entry requirements for admission to the certificate programme:
- a completed bachelor's degree or an at least equivalent degree (knowledge of chemistry is an advantage, but not essential)
- one year of relevant work experience
- advanced knowledge of English
