Interdisciplinary training in Complementary studies

Complementary Studies: focusing on your skills

In order to confront the challenges of today’s business world, personal qualifications and so-called "soft skills", are becoming more and more important as an addition to up-to-date specialized knowledge. Many employers demand more from their employees: They are looking for self-confident people, who are quick to get involved, are open to others, and who learn from their mistakes. The Professional School answers this practical need with a continuing education model aimed at developing real-world social, organizational, and societal skills, in addition to updating and widening your technical knowledge. That way, your practical skills and personal strengths can be expanded and enhanced at the same time.

Your skills in focus

Bachelor and Masters students at the Professional School take up to three Complementary Studies modules over the course of their degree. Complementary Studies modules 1 and 2 (K1 and K2) cover, for example, methodological and social competencies and the fundamentals of communication, conflict management and project management.

The interdisciplinary third module Society and Responsibility (K3) explores leadership, change management and organisational ethics. You take the module together with students on other programmes and benefit from their experience in very different subjects and professional contexts. The focus is on interdisciplinary exchange and new perspectives.

The innovative graded work "Portfolio" was developed to support practice transfer, as well as to stimulate self-reflection. In this learning process documentation, you analyze your personal development and role within a case study or project from your own work context on one of three subject: leadership, change or ethics and values.

Because the courses are short, no overarching modules are planned during the course of the Certificate programmes. Persons studying on the Certificate programmes, who are interested in participating in the complementary modules of the Bachelor or Masters programmes, can contact Irmela Lord (irmela.lord@leuphana.de, Fon +49.4131.677-1537).
