The modules in the certificate programme Practices of Sustainable Chemistry
Concepts of Sustainable Chemistry (5 CP)
In this introductory module you will explore the interface between the practice of chemistry in socio-economics and sustainable development. You will receive an introduction to current trends and learn how the terms 'green' and 'sustainable' are related and how they relate to sustainable development.
Resources, Recycling and Circular Economy (5 CP)
In this module you will gain a comprehensive overview of the availability and characteristics of mineral, biological and fossil resources, which provide the raw material basis for value creation and consumption in the socio-economy. Against the background of resource scarcity and climate change, you will deal with strategies for challenges such as
- Reduction of material and product flows
- Implementation of recycling practices
- Transition from linear to circular value creation
Regulations and International Conventions (5 CP)
In this module you will learn about regulations and international conventions on chemicals management and product design that are directly related to the practice of chemistry in the socio-economy. You will look at sector-specific case studies and discuss the potential of regulatory measures as a driver for development.
Tools for Sustainable Chemistry (5 CP)
In this module you will gain an overview of assessment methods and tools for sustainability-based decision-making and leadership in the chemical and related sectors. The content of the module serves to deepen and prepare a practical application of learned programme content.
