Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte Receives Honorary Award
2026-06-19 Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte was awarded the WIB Honorary Prize by the Scientific Institute of the Federal Association of Accountants and Controllers (WIB) for his publications on the regulation of sustainability reporting. The award was presented on June 18, 2026, during the Federal Congress on Accounting and Controlling hosted by the Federal Association of Accountants and Controllers (BVBC) in Wuppertal.
Patrick Velte is receiving this year’s Honorary Award primarily for his recent publication “European Regulation of Sustainability Reporting: On the Verge of a U-Turn? A Critical Assessment of the EU Omnibus Package in Light of Previous Empirical Findings,” published in the journal “Der Konzern” in 2025 (pp. 388–394), which, as the chair of the Honorary Award jury, Prof. Dr. Stefan Müller, emphasizes, “is exemplary of Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte’s tremendous scholarly achievement” and is “consistently characterized by its high relevance to current issues and – particularly relevant for financial accounting and controlling – its precision.”
This is one of his many articles in which the author skillfully conveys his own scientific findings—often derived using a wide variety of methods—to the respective target audience in a practical, accessible way.

The awards ceremony was followed by a presentation by the honorary award recipient on the topic: “Sustainability Reporting on the Brink of a Turnaround—What the EU Omnibus Package Really Means.” In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Velte expressed criticism of the European Commission’s current deregulation of sustainability reporting as part of the omnibus procedure, which he argued contradicts the climate goals of the EU Green Deal.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte on receiving the WIB Honorary Award and join him in celebrating this special recognition of his work.
