Science for society
Based on excellent research and expertise, environmental and sustainability scientists at the School of Sustainability make solution-oriented contributions to social practice. The spectrum ranges from science communication and expert activities to cooperation projects with social actors:
- We give lectures for different target groups – from schools to the German Sustainability Award.
- We participate in media communication and public debates – in newspapers, radio, TV, podcasts and YouTube.
- We contribute environmental and sustainability expertise to advisory bodies and commissions – from the Lower Saxony Government Commission and the Federal Government Advisory Council for Natural Climate Protection to the International Panel on Climate Change.
- We cooperate with actors from politics, administration, business and civil society – including the Federal Environment Agency, UNESCO, the Alfred Töpfer Academy for Nature Conservation, EDEKA and the Lower Saxony Climate Protection and Energy Agency.
- We work together with social actors in transdisciplinary projects and real-world laboratories to find practical solutions to problems – e.g. for urban development in Lüneburg or in the Elbtalaue Biosphere Reserve.
Our expertise lies in the areas of biodiversity conservation and nature conservation, sustainable land and resource use, education for sustainable development, sustainable materials and circular economy, environmental chemistry and sustainable chemistry, sustainability management in companies and organisations, issues of public sustainability governance, and psychology and sustainability.
