Computer Science Day 2025: 85 pupils learn about computer science
2025-09-17
On September 9, 2025, the Institute of Information Systems invited 85 school pupils to Leuphana University to take part in four workshops. The aim was to give everyone a hands-on experience of the many facets of computer science.
At the beginning, Prof. Dr. Ricardo Usbeck gave a keynote speech on the current applications of AI in various areas of life. Using concrete practical examples, he explained the impact AI is already having on schools, industry, the military, society, and democracy.
The pupils then split up into the following workshops:
- HTML (website development), Nina Schardt, Jan H. Last
- Chatbots (development with low-code platforms), Prof. Dr. Olga Abramova
- Do Something with AI (controlling a robot cat, gesture control, automation), Prof. Dr. Ricardo Usbeck, Martin Kohler
- Android (development of a to-do app), Thomas Slotos
After lunch together in the university canteen, all of the pupils continued working on their projects with great motivation. At 3 p.m., the impressive project results were presented. With their heads spinning but also really proud, all of the participants received their personalised certificates at the end of the day. This was proof that they had mastered the day of computer science at Leuphana with flying colours.
