Leuphana Student Lasse Bo Leuers is German Kickboxing Champion
2024-07-11 11 At the International German Championships on 15 June, psychology student and Leuphana top athlete Lasse Bo Leuers secured the gold medal in the "Pointfighting Kickboxing" category against the competition in his weight class. Unlike other types of kickboxing, pointfighting kickboxing is played point by point, with the match stopping after each point is scored. After Lasse had won two preliminary rounds convincingly with a comfortable margin, he also won the final with a final score of 9:7.
Lasse has been successfully active in kickboxing and Wun Hop Kuen Do – a martial art that combines various techniques such as kickboxing, fighting with weapons, or self-defence – for some time now. Last year, for example, he travelled to Canada for the world championships.
"We are delighted to have Lasse not only as a top athlete at Leuphana, but also as a valuable member of the university sports team," says Karla Herrmann, deputy head of university sports. "He decided to compete in the German championships at rather short notice. Of course, we immediately gave him the necessary freedom to prepare in the best possible way. We are very proud of Lasse's achievements. It is very important to us to support top athletes on their way. At the same time, it is our goal to get as many members of the Leuphana community moving – whether through our course programme, our events such as the university sports festival, or our sports excursions. Thanks to the ever-increasing demand, we are able to continuously expand our range of sports activities."
