M&T Christmas Party 2024: Impact awards premiere
2024-12-16 The same old thing every year? Not on your life! On 4 December, the School of Management and Technology invited all members to its Christmas party and had a few new additions to the programme.
There is RISE
Prof. Dr. Laura Venz opened the series as the new Vice-Dean and Dean of Research with a witty introduction to the faculty's slogans. In the cosy atmosphere of Lecture Hall 4, Laura Venz invited all M&T members to look back on an exciting year 2024 with the words ‘Come RISE with us!’ RISE, which is an acronym for ‘Responsible’, ‘Interdisciplinary’, ‘Solution-oriented’ and ‘Entrepreneurial’, represents the values of the School.
These values are also reflected in the work of the award-winning faculty. For the first time, the jury presented not only the ‘Research’ and ‘Teaching Award’ but also the ‘Impact Award’, which honours special achievements in the impact of researchers outside the academia bubble. All this year's award winners are listed below.
Awards and standards
Whether in teaching, research or communication, scientists and employees at M&T are constantly setting new standards with their work. To this end, the School has undergone major structural changes in recent years. The combination of Business Administration, Business Information Systems, Engineering and Psychology in the working environment meets international requirements in particular. They underpin the forward-looking and responsible teaching and research at the school, as this year's highlights show:
be it in the context of the international accreditation process with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), in the context of which a three-day review took place in Lueneburg in mid-November, or in the area of important scientific awards.
Prof. Dr. Michael Frese was the first German ever to receive the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research this year, and Prof. Dr. Hannah Trittin-Ulbrich won the ‘Business&Society Best Paper Award’. The Helmholtz Association honoured engineer Dr. Zina Kallien with the doctoral prize in the field of ‘Information’. Dr Laura Fey adds to this list of achievements by receiving the Emerald Literati Award. Furthermore, Prof. Frese and Prof. Dr. Paolo Mercorelli and Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte are among the ‘World's Most Cited 2% scientists’ in the Elsevier Ranking 2023.
Leuphana as a business hotspot
The school also attracted attention on campus when it hosted the conference of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB) in March. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Monika Imschloss, Prof. Dr. Markus Reihlen and Prof. Dr. Matthias Wenzel, the Leuphana campus became THE hotspot for business teachers and researchers in Germany. Around 300 participants were welcomed at the School of Management and Technology under the guiding themes of sustainability, digitalisation and entrepreneurship.
Successful fundraising
Laura Venz particularly emphasised the successful fundraising of research projects: Prof. Dr. Ghada Bouattour and Prof. Dr. Michael Gielnik were pleased with the successful applications to the German Academic Exchange Service this year. Prof. Dr. Stefanie Habersang was able to successfully help women found companies with the workshop series ‘EXIST Women ScaleF’ and Prof. Dr. Rainer Lueg and Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte raised various doctoral funds.
Prof. Dr. Burkhard Funk and Prof. Dr. Jens Heger received funding from the European Regional Development Fund, and Prof. Dr. Benjamin Klusemann, Prof. Dr. Oliver Genschow and Prof. Dr. Ricardo Usbeck can be proud of their successful applications to the German Research Foundation.
Press, radio and television
M&T members were also represented in numerous public media, including appearances on the news, on nTV, MDR, ProSieben, Deutschlandfunk and also in the highest-circulation daily newspapers, such as the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung or Die Zeit.
In addition to the public media, the School has also expanded its own media work this year: a new Instagram channel provides information about exciting impact stories as well as job postings.
“In particular, we want to evoke the team spirit of the School even more. We want to achieve this through new formats and strong communication for more togetherness, so that we can present the full range of topics of our School in the coming year,” said the Pro-Dean at the end of the event.
