Leuphana University Lüneburg is receiving €4.63 million in funding from the European Union for its innovative international master's programme in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD). The joint Master's programme, run by a consortium of renowned European universities, is offered as part of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's programme, which focuses on courses of excellence, and is coordinated by Leuphana as the lead university.
The English-language Master's programme is tailored to highly qualified students from all over the world and combines legal and political science perspectives with global challenges for security, peace and sustainable development. The programme covers topics such as climate change, armed conflict, migration, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
Study at up to four European universities
A total of six European universities are involved in the programme, including Leuphana – among them the University of Glasgow, the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals, the Université libre de Bruxelles, the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the University of Tartu. Students spend the first semester in Lüneburg, the second in Barcelona, and can choose between the four other partner locations for their second year of study.
Strong profile for international careers
The new programme is aimed at graduates of law and political science as well as related disciplines such as international relations or corresponding interdisciplinary bachelor's programmes. The aim is to qualify future specialists and managers for international organisations – such as the United Nations, the EU or the OECD – ministries, NGOs or internationally positioned law firms.
70 full scholarships and tuition-free study
A total of 70 full scholarships are available during the five-year funding period. These cover not only living expenses (€1,400/month over two years) but also the full tuition fees.
The first cohort will start in the winter semester of 2026/27.
