All interested parties are warmly invited to attend the guest lecture by Prof. Dr David Sherman as part of the “Sustainability Psychology Talks” lecture series.

  • Prof. David Sherman, University of California, Santa Barbara; Director Social Climate Science Lab
  • July 7 (2026) 16:15 PM
  • C 40.704.

Abstract: “In this talk, I will share the story of three Jewish American soldiers who were there at the liberation of the camps to investigate war crimes. These American soldiers worked with Holocaust survivors to document and prosecute atrocities at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp. With linguistic abilities from their European heritage and legal training in America, they made major contributions to Nuremberg prosecutions. I’ll focus on the historical and personal impact of their work, both during the war, and through the rest of their lives.”

The lecture is being held as part of Prof. Sherman’s research visit to Leuphana University, as part of a project funded by the State of Lower Saxony: „Using Self-Affirmation to Reduce Intergroup Hostility and Facilitate Intergroup Contact in the Israel-Palestinian Conflict”.
