Call for Papers and Workshop: Climate Finance - Climate Change and Economics
2022-01-17 The need for climate policy measures and the resulting consequences for market actors have led to the emergence of the branch of "carbon finance" in economic research. Together with the Fernuniversität Hagen, Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte and Prof. Dr. Christoph Wegener are planning a two-day virtual workshop on carbon finance on 8 and 9 March 2022 as well as a special issue in the renowned journal "Finance Research Letters". Researchers have until 27 January 2022 to submit papers for the workshop.
The EU Commission's ambitious Green Deal project envisages a climate-neutral economy by 2050 in all member states. The German government would like to achieve this goal five years earlier (2045). "To meet this target, the European financial market, including companies seeking capital, must turn green," says Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte, Professor of Accounting, Auditing & Corporate Governance. The necessary transformation to climate-neutral products and services requires that corporate and government investment and financing strategies are consistently aligned with climate targets (including the 1.5 degree global warming target). The new Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Habeck, has announced an expansion of the existing social market economy to include a social-ecological market economy in Germany and radical climate protection measures.
From the necessity of climate policy measures and the resulting consequences for market actors, the branch of "carbon finance" has emerged in economic research. Against this current background, Prof. Dr. Christoph Wegener, Junior Professor of Quantitative Methods of Economics, and Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte from Leuphana, together with Prof. Dr. Robinson Kruse-Becher from the Fernuniversität in Hagen, have currently announced two calls for papers. On the one hand, the three researchers are planning a two-day virtual workshop on carbon finance on 8 and 9 March 2022 and, on the other, a special issue in the renowned journal "Finance Research Letters".
Researchers have until 27 January 2022 to submit their detailed summaries (500 words) or full papers for the workshop. In parallel, submissions for the special issue of the journal "Finance Research Letters" will be accepted until 01.07.2022. Both calls for papers are methodologically open (both empirical and theoretical) and address a broad range of researchers in economics and sustainability studies from an interdisciplinary perspective. Selected topics, although not exhaustive, may address climate-conscious board composition and climate-oriented investors, comparative analysis of green and traditional bonds, econometric modelling of climate change, and measurement of social Co2 costs. The researchers are looking forward to receiving numerous submissions and hope for an exciting discussion on this hot topic.
