Inverting the course - Competence-Oriented Active Learning in the Flipped Classroom

This course has two asynchronous and two synchronous phases, you will find the exact dates in the description below.

The Flipped Classroom opens up possibilities for competence-oriented active learning in lectures and other teaching formats by inverting the usual activities inside and outside a course. The passive reception of teaching content is shifted to the individual preparation phase of a course. The class phases of a course – whether as a physical class or in synchronous digital teaching – systematically build on the competences and questions acquired by the students in preparation phases. The classes thus serve to apply and deepen the acquired knowledge as well as to develop more sophisticated competences. This introductory workshop deals with the conceptual foundations and the practical implementation of active learning in the Flipped Classroom. As part of the workshop, participants develop a concept for their own flipped learning unit.
Workshop objective: At the end, participants will be able to design courses and learning units following the flipped classroom concept, formulate competence-oriented teaching-learning objectives and select appropriate teaching methods for preparation and class phases.

Contents of the Workshops:

  • Introduction to and definition of the Flipped Classrom
