Writing a Thesis at the School of Sustainability
The professors of the School of Sustainability repeatedly offer topics for Bachelor and Master theses based on their field of work. All professors who offer the possibility to write a Bachelor or Master thesis are listed below. If you are interested in a specific topic, please contact the professor personally.
A list of current thesis topics is available on mystudy in the course "Bachelor Thesis" of the current semester of Environmental and Sustainability Sciences, in the material folder. This folder can be viewed by all students of Leuphana University.

Where can I write my bachelor thesis?
You can choose the topic for your bachelor thesis by yourself, but you can also write about a given topic of someone, who is teaching at the Leuphana Universtity or another University.
If you are interested in a specific reseach discipline you should ask a professor of the Leuphana University for further information or for a possible bachelor thesis topic. There is also the possibility to be part of a research project of the faculty on sustainability and to write your bachelor thesis over a fraction of this research project.

Where can I write my master thesis?
You can choose the topic for your master thesis by yourself, but you can also write about a given topic of someone, who is teaching at the Leuphana Universtity or another University.
If you are interested in a specific reseach discipline you should ask a professor of the Leuphana University for further information or for a possible master thesis topics. There is also the possibility to be part of a research project of the faculty on sustainability and to write your master thesis over a fraction of this research project.
Another possibility is to write the master thesis at an institut or at a company.

Before writing a master thesis
Is there a time period, in which I have to write my master thesis?
You have five months to write your master thesis, after you got the response of the study service office, that your topic of your thesis is fine. Therefore you have to hand in an application with further information on your master thesis at the study service office first. It is possible to extend the time period out of medical reasons. All the information given above can be found in the general examination regulation (WiSe 2016/2017) as well.
Who can I choose as a supervisor?
You have to choose a doctor of the Leuphana University or of another University, who is teaching, as your first supervisor.
The second supervisor has do be a doctor as well and he or she should also teach at Leuphana University or at another University.
It is also possible, that your second supervisor is a representative with pratical background from outside the university, but just if this is alright with your first supervisor. You can find further information at the general examination regulations (WiSe 2016/2017) or you can ask the study service office.
How do I get registered for my master thesis?
Before you register yourself for your master thesis, you should choose your topic and your first and second supervisor. After that you can hand in the application form at the study service office.

Do I have to be part of a master seminar?
Yes, you can register therefore in myStudy.
Am I allowed to write my master thesis together with other students?
It is possible to write your master thesis in a group, but it has to be clear for your supervisors which part of the thesis you wrote. You could mark the pages you wrote for example. You can find further information in §8 of the general examination regulations ( WiSe 2016/2017).

Before and after handing in your master thesis
What do I have to hand in together with my master thesis?
Your bachelor thesis should contain a front page and a declaration of originality.
The front page should include this:
-Leuphana University
-Major
-Titel of your work in German and in English (it has to be the exact wording, which you used on the applicaton form for your bachelor thesis)
-Name, surname
-Matriculation number
-E-mail address
-Address
-First supervisor
-Second supervisor (if it is an external supervisor you shoud add his address as well)
-Date, when you handed in your bachelor thesis
-(a blocking notice, if you don´t want a third person to look into your work)
The wording of your declaration of originality:
"I promise, that I wrote my thesis-if it is part of a group work, the part which is marked- by myself and that I didn´t use other references or auxiliary aids, which I didn´t quote. Every passage, which I took word by word or analogous out of other sources, have been marked properly. The work or an similar work was not handed before at another examination office."

How much time do the supervisors have to correct my master thesis?
They have at least four weeks time to correct your master thesis. You can find further information on that at the general examination regulation (WiSe 2016/2017).
